Departing from the previous BN administration's policy, the Pakatan Harapan government has announced it will be providing allocations to opposition MPs as well. However, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the allocation for opposition lawmakers would be less than what government MPs would receive. "We will give them (opposition MPs) an allocation but it will be less... RM500,000 for us, and RM100,000 to them," he told a press conference in Putrajaya this afternoon. Earlier, the prime minister said RM200,000 would be allocated for the MPs' service centres, but it is unclear if this was inclusive of opposition lawmakers as well. He said the allocations would be given prior to Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Meanwhile, Mahathir also announced that an RM450 Aidilfitri incentive would be given to Felda settlers and Felcra members. He said the Felda payout would cost the government RM50 million, while RM44 million of Felcra's profits would be used for their payout. Such special payouts, he added, would be reviewed next year, with the possibility of those receiving cost of living allowance no longer qualifying for the additional incentives. On a related matter, Mahathir said the rebranded Cost of Living Assistance (BSH) would also be paid out soon, while the quantum of future payments and eligibility would be reviewed.
