Minister says proposed healthcare advisory council to Cabinet

The Health Ministry has suggested the formation of a Healthcare Advisory Council to the Cabinet. Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the council would primarily advise the government on solutions to problems that may arise in the provision of universal healthcare in the country. “The council would help troubleshooting problems and and mainly aid to provide a better healthcare delivery system,” he said. Up to seven health professionals will sit on the council. “We could even have an economist on the council to help in dealing with the economics of healthcare,” he said, adding that he will present the detailed proposal in the next Cabinet meeting. He also said his ministry was considering adopting blockchain technology to streamline operations. Dzulkefly said the technology could be adapted to healthcare delivery. “It could help integrate management and other in house system which could aid in our healthcare delivery system,” he said.

Dr Dzul: Health Advisory Council will be set up

The Health Ministry will be setting up an independent Health Advisory Council within 100 days to advise the ministry on strengthening healthcare delivery, said Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. The new Health Minister said that the ministry would gather talent from the public and private sector to sit in the council "We want the council to be totally independent. The experts will be providing feedback on the direction and enhancement of healthcare services," he said. Dr Dzulkefly said this after former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam handed over ministerial responsibilities to him in a ceremony on Thursday (May 24). A name Dr Dzulkefly mentioned as a possible candidate sitting in the council was former Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman. He however added that he will reveal the full list of names in the near future.
